Quay walls and jetties

Design and construction supervision of marine infrastructure including quay walls and jetties.

Accommodating vessels in ports requires purpose built marine structures such as vertical quay walls (sheet pile and blockwork), deck on piles, jetties and wharves. PRDW has extensive international experience in the design and construction of this type of marine infrastructure. This experience translates to efficient designs (minimum CAPEX) without compromising safety or quality standards which adhere to international design codes and standards.

PRDW has global experience in the design of a wide range of structural configurations in steel, concrete and timber including:

  • Gravity based concrete quay walls
  • Counterfort units
  • Sheet piled walls including anchored tie-backs
  • Suspended pile decks
  • Jetties in steel and concrete
  • Nearshore piling – steel and concrete
  • Mooring and berthing platforms
  • Loading platforms
  • Concrete caissons
  • Access trestles

The geotechnical design aspects are key to the design of all the above structures and PRDW has the capability to include the soil mechanics and foundation conditions into integrated structural solutions.

Together with PRDW’s complementary expertise in port planning and navigation, developed designs are aligned with client present and future requirements and are therefore designed, where possible, to facilitate expansion plans. Developed designs also account for local contractor capability including equipment and construction materials availability. Temporary works design can also be undertaken to suit construction methodology.
