The Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand and Gulf MTP LNG Terminal Company, under a public private partnership, executed the Map Ta Phut Port Expansion Project Phase 3.
PRDW’s client, SMC Consulting Engineers (SMC) were appointed by the contractor, Italian-Thai Development Corporation (ITD), as their Engineering Consultant on a design and build contract. PRDW was appointed by SMC to provide specialist professional engineering design services for the project as well as to fulfil the role of Project Manager during the design. PRDW’s Project Manager was based at SMC’s offices in Bangkok and coordinated the preliminary and detailed design phases of the project.
The project comprised of approximately 1.6 million square metres of reclaimed land to be used for new port facilities. PRDW designed approximately 5.4 kilometres of new rubble mound revetments, as well as a 980-metre-long rubble mound breakwater and a further 650-metre concrete caisson breakwater. Rubble mound structures were armoured with Accropode™ concrete armour units.
The remaining scope of design works were carried out by SMC and their sub-consultants.
PRDW appointed the CSIR in South Africa to carry out a 2D and 3D physical model studies. Due to the scale of the project, the 3D model study was tested in 3 separate layouts.
