PRDW was appointed by Commercial Marine Group (CMG) to develop the installation engineering for a 900 m, 630 mm diameter HDPE sewer pipeline on the Brisbane riverbed.
Previously designed as a temporary bypass sewer, the syphon sewer pipeline is to operate for two years during the construction of the permanent sewer upgrade by the main contractor.
PRDW worked closely with CMG developing a float and sink installation methodology, and when river traffic coordination dictated a change of methodology, PRDW developed a lay barge alternative which included the following scope:
Installation engineering:
- River current monitoring and tidal analysis
- Orcaflex modelling of a float and sink pipeline installation considering challenging tidal river currents, as well as an S-lay pipeline installation and lay barge mooring analysis
- Structural design of the steel truss stinger and supporting A-frame
- Lay barge roller table design
- Lay barge lifting gantry design to support handling and positioning of pipeline sections
- Pulling blind flange and pad-eye design
- Development of construction drawings and specifications for key structural components including:
- Barge layout
- Stinger
- Lay barge pipe clamp
- Pipeline laydown blind flange
- Installation sequence drawings to guide the step-by-step execution of pipeline stringing, staging and installation
