PRDW were appointed by Portuaria Cabo Froward S A to design a new 2.5 MTPA coal terminal in the bay of Coronel, Biobío region in Chile.
The project included the design of a jetty and a mechanised unloading system, with a capacity of 1,200 TPH of coal, to service Panamax bulk carriers up to 80,000DWT.
The project required the following marine works, designed by PRDW:
- A platform for two fixed loaders (with a capacity of 1,000 TPH each)
- Mooring dolphins
- Berthing dolphins
- Coal Hoppers
- Support structures
- Transfer towers
- Access trestle 1,080m in length
- Technical specifications of equipment
- The design of the mechanical system, composed of hoppers and conveyor belts with 1,200 TPH capacity.
Further engineering input from PRDW included the following:
- Analysis and definition of marine terminal layout
- Analysis of coal unloading equipment (cranes, hoppers, conveyor belts, transfer
- towers and others)
- Study of coastal natural conditions
- Study of the wave climate and wave penetration to the berth
- Numerical modelling of berthing vessel motion
- Study of the jetty operational availability (downtime)
- Technical documents for tender and construction
- Technical support in the tender and construction phases
