MEJILLONES LNG UNLOADING JETTY

GNL Mejillones S.A. entered into an EPC contract with BELFI S.A. to design and construct a new LNG Terminal in Mejillones Bay in Antofagasta. PRDW’s involvement included undertaking the FEED, preliminary and detailed design for the terminal.

The project included a jetty for two LNG ships of 165,000m3; one berth for LNG storage and processing (FSU vessel) and another berth for unloading vessels.

A FEED design was executed for the client, and the preliminary and detailed design for BELFI S.A.

The jetty comprised the following:

  • 620m long access trestle including platforms, electrical building
  • Unloading platform with unloading arms, topside, and others
  • Mooring and berthing dolphins and walkways

The engineering input from PRDW included the following:

  • Layout definition
  • Study of local operational and design wave conditions
  • Study of operational downtime
  • Numerical modeling of ship at berth dynamics
  • Study of tsunami risk and penetration
  • Special seismic analysis
