PRDW were initially appointed by Kenmare to undertake initial feasibility studies for the mineral sands export jetty. The project execution was undertaken as a design and construct contract. PRDW provided detailed design services to the successful tenderer Group Five Construction.
The preliminary design work for this jetty construction at a remote site included the development of a design concept that facilitated the use of the permanent jetty structure to support the construction equipment, thereby minimising construction time and costs. The design responded to the specifications and environmental data provided in the jetty tender enquiry documentation.
The 400m long jetty structure consists of fixed portal structures, comprising vertical steel piles and transverse tubular headstocks that support a continuous horizontal truss. This jetty structure was designed to support the export conveyor structure, a walkway, and pipelines for fuel and water.
The jetty has a single berth located in 6m water depth. This berth has been designed to provide safe berthing and mooring facilities for a 6 000 tonne displacement mineral sands barge and for a 1 500 dwt fuel barge. The loading platform at the berth accommodates a conveyor transfer station, a lifting davit, fuel bunkering and offloading facilities, and water points.
