SOUTH AFRICAN CONTAINER DEVELOPMENT STUDY

PRDW was appointed by Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) to conduct a study which identified, evaluated and prioritized the possible future container terminal expansion options for the western and central regions of South Africa.

This study focused on the container terminal development for the ports of Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Ngqura.

PRDW’s services included a comprehensive review of relevant literature, port planning and engineering activities. Key study considerations which aided in determining the most appropriate container terminal expansion scenarios included:

  • Updated design vessels and associated navigational requirements

  • The port’s regional context
  • Future capacity requirements
