WALVIS BAY FULL MISSION SHIP SIMULATION STUDY

PRDW was appointed by the Namibian Ports Authority (Namport) to provide a high-level specialist vessel manoeuvring simulation study for the navigation of vessels to the new container and tanker berths in the Port of Walvis Bay, Namibia. The simulation study was to serve as a further verification for the proposed terminals.

PRDW’s  scope of work included full mission bridge ship manoeuvring simulation runs to verify the operational limits and provide engineering input for navigation to the new container and tanker berths. The following deliverables were required:

  • 3D modelling of the container terminal
  • 3D modelling of the tanker basin
  • Ship manoeuvring simulation runs to both the new container and tanker berths
  • Report of simulation analysis and results on the conclusion of the study

The simulation runs for both terminals were viewed in line with the previous work undertaken as part of the design of the new terminals.

The study was undertaken using a Full Mission Ship Manoeuvring Simulator known as SimFlex4. SimFlex4 is a ship manoeuvring simulation software capable of simulating full visual navigation bridge operations.
